Useful Tips For Installing Crown Molding

Crown molding can no doubt add a style and grace to any area of your home or office. It makes a place more beautiful and attractive. A slight modification in your kitchen can change it from dull to dramatic!

Most of the people think that crown molding is an intimidating task. But let me tell you one thing that you are completely wrong. Although this technique involves series of steps but if you carefully follow these steps then you will not face any kind of difficulty. In this article I would mainly like to state five steps that have to be followed while installing a crown molding. Let us start with the first one.

1. Place a wooden piece on the top of the cabinet
You have to cut 1 to 1 ½-inch strips of wood or particleboard. This piece is then placed on the top edge of your kitchen cabinets.

2. Properly fix this piece
You have to properly fix this piece on the top edge of your kitchen cabinets. For this purpose you must use nails and glue. Now, there is no need to nail into the finished surface of the furniture. Thus it acts as a useful nailing strip for your crown molding. I will advise you to use a hammer and finishing nails for this purpose. Even a finish nailer will make the job fast and simple.

3. Carefully cut the crown molding
In the third step, you have to cut the crown molding that is according to the dimensions of the room. Let me tell you that you must cut perfect 45 degree angles at corners because all the cabinets are usually square in shape. A Custom-angled cabinet will require more careful measuring.

4. Fix the molding part
Now it is the most important part of installation. You must properly nail the piece on to the nailing strip at the top of the cabinets. You can use a finish nailer for this work. A hammer is also a good option if used.

5. Finishing
At last you must fill in nail holes and other imperfections with wood filler. You can even paint it with an appropriate color that matches your cabinet.

You can either purchase a pre-finished crown molding or you can even manually create and install your own designed molding. The decision is completely yours. It even comes in wide variety of styles and height. I hope you will not face any installation problem now.
