Increasing the Water Pressure in Your Home
As the owner of Jolly Plumbing in Wilder, KY, Barry Jolly now has more than 31 years of experience serving clients in the greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky areas. Here, Jolly explains what you can do to increase the water pressure in your home.
It Is Possible to Increase Your Water Pressure
It is possible for you to increase the water pressure in your house. And the best part is that you don't have to spend a lot of money. As long as your home has a pressure regulator on it, which most homes do now, all that you have to do is make an adjustment on the pressure regulator that will allow you to increase the water pressure in your home.
Your old water pipes may cause your poor wate pressure. Over time, pipes get more and more clogged with junk and debris. When your pipes are clogged so much that your water pressure has been decreased, it might be time to replace your old pipes. You should start with replacing the water lines in your basement, and work your way to the plumbing fixtures. This is a much bigger job than just adjusting the pressure regulator. However, by changing your water lines, you could definitely increase the water pressure throughout your house.
Too High Water Pressure Can Cause Problems
In general, most people don't know much about what the water pressure levels in their home should be. They just understand how much water they do or don't like coming out of the shower head. Ideally, a good working water pressure in a home should be around 75 pounds. But you don't need to get that level up to more than 100 pounds, because at that point it makes it hard for your fixtures to function properly. Having your water pressure set too high can make it difficult for your toilets or water faucets to shut off, which will cause you a lot of trouble and cost you much.
Because of too high water pressure, your fixtures will have a hard time turning off, leading to increased maintenance issues. That is because the increased water level is putting more pressure on all of your equipments, including your pipes. So if you increase your water pressure level too much, you will have more washers to change, and more leaks and drips to catch and fix. That's why I don't recommend that anyone adjust the level up to over 100 pounds.

VIAIR 90150 PSI Air Pressure Regulator $43.64 Viair inline pressure regulator may be used to regulate air pressure from an air tank to any pressure between 0 to 200 PSI. This is useful for installations that supply air to locking differentials and air tools. The regulator also provides an easy to read gauge that allows adjustment of inline pressure a compression fitting for tank pressure side and a T fitting that will allow regulated pressure to be fed to two locations. Regulate air pressure at any point between 0 PSI and 200 PSI. Locking adjustment dial. Mounting bracket included. Includes the following brass fittings: Tfitting (1/4 inch NPT female x 1/4 inch NPT female x 1/4 inch NPT male) compression fitting for 1/4 air line 1/4 NPT Plug. Great for adjusting pressure for air locking differentials. |

Pressure Regulator $93.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A pressure regulator is a valve that automatically cuts off the flow of a liquid or gas at a certain pressure. Regulators are used to allow highpressure fluid supply lines or tanks to be reduced to safe and/or usable pressures for various applications. A pressure regulators primary function is to match the flow of gas through the regulator to the demand for gas placed upon the system. If the load flow decreases, then the regulator flow must decrease also. If the load flow increases, then the regulator flow must increase in order to keep the controlled pressure from decreasing due to a shortage of gas in the pressure system. In the pictured singlestage regulator, a diaphragm is used with a poppet valve to regulate pressure. As pressure in the upper chamber increases, the diaphragm is pushed upward, causing the poppet to reduce flow, bringing the pressure back down. By adjusting the top screw, the downward pressure on the diaphragm can be increased, requiring more pressure in the upper chamber to maintain equilibrium. In this way, the outlet pressure of the regulator is controlled. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. AmStar 1/2'' Air Pressure Regulator with Gauge $57.95 Pneumatic equipment that operates at higher than recommended pressure can cause excess torque, force and wear and can waste compressed air. Operating below specified pressure can cause machines to fail to meet their design performance specifications. Therefore, precise air pressure control is essential to efficient operation of air powered equipment. An air line regulator is a specialized control valve which reduces upstream supply pressure level to a specified constant downstream pressure.Features:? Regulates air pressure of the air line? Self-relieving style units? Features three position non-rising knob-push to lock, pull to adjust, detach to make tamper resistant? Polished brass valve set - regulated pressure will not drift.? Efficient aspirator (minimum pressure drop) - quick response - high cycles - higher productionSpecifications:? 1/2'' NPT Inlet/Outlet? 250 SCFM Max Flow? 5-125 PSIG Adjustment Range |
