There is a couple who engage themselves in brassing but if you ask them they will tell you that this is no easy hobby but one which is very rewarding. Treasured most by the couple was the brass of Sir John d' Abernon who died in 1277 in battle. According to the couples, the Vicars in charge of the brasses saw to it that only those with prior experience were allowed to duplicate the brasses. Before duplicates can be made the English requires a waiver to be signed saying that none of the duplicates will be sold and this resulted from the incident involving a bunch of Americans who went there and made duplicates of the brass bringing them home and selling them for $2,000 each in New York.  8,000 remaining monuments are what is left from the large number that was initially put down from 1250 to 1650. Because of these brasses it has been a possibility for the clues from the monuments to help out the historians as they trace the development of clothing, armor, and lifestyle.
