Schwinn Air-Dyne Upright Exercise Bike -- The Truth

Schwinn Airdyne upright exercise bike popularity remains even though the basic bike design is quite old. The Air-Dyne bikes at nearly 100 pounds will remain steady and in one place even though used hard and regularly. What's more, the resistance system is just simply a fan. The fan is so simple as compared to most bikes with magnetic drives and lots of electronics and gadgets. Simply turning the fan faster makes for more load against the rider. Here's the advantage of the fan as a load generator.

Dual action bikes, of which the Air-Dyne was the leader, make for a smooth, balanced workout. That's so partly because the workout you get touches lots of muscles. That comes from the use of both upper and lower body muscles at the same time. By working both upper body and lower body, you get better overall results faster. Part of the advantage to any exercise bike workout, especially the dual action equipment, is the muscle toning and building is the real key to long-term weight loss and fat burning. Increased at-rest metabolism means you are burning energy more even when at rest. A higher metabolism rate equals more fat burning and better weight control.

The problem with exercise bike workouts is they must be done or no results occur. It's time in the saddle and the more the better. Boredom stops many exercise plans and that's another advantage of machines of this type. But the dual action bikes make it easier to keep going since the motions are more varied and thus more interesting. Most bikes now use electronics and especially magnetic drives. The Airdyne lacks heavy computer power but substitutes a comfortable ride and the more total engagement of the limbs and shoulders to keep the ride less of a chore. It's still work, but with a little imagination and some thought it's easy to mix it up and keep at the workouts which is a must to get results.

Exercise machines come and go. Many get abandoned quite quickly. Stationary bikes remain as a really workable way to fitness. Especially the convenience of riding at home makes it more likely that a bike will get used regularly and really make for good results. The Schwinn Airdyne remains a popular machine and produces results because of the solid durable construction and the interesting dual action motion. It's what could be called a classic of an exercise machine.
