CBN Grinding Wheel: An Upgrade over Conventional Grinding Tools

Cubic boron nitride (CBN) grinding wheel devices are an advancement over the traditional construction of grinding wheel machines. Using CBN on the wheel improves the effectiveness of the machine for grinding, cutting, and drilling.

Grinding is done by spinning wheels at high speeds on a spoke. When spinning, the grooves on the wheel move rapidly, creating something akin to a buzz saw or chain saw. When used with materials that are adequately hard or abrasive, and if the wheel spins fast enough, this can be used to cut and shape.

CBN is a known abrasive. What makes it excel as a grinding material is how durable it is against iron, nickel or other similar metals, especially when exposed to high temperatures. Diamonds, being made of carbon, cannot be used as an abrasive against such substances, given how high temperatures can leave carbides that can compromise the quality of the job.
