10 Questions to ask when Looking at Air Compressors

If you are making an investment in something that is expensive or that you want to last a long time, then you need to do some research. Now, this may seem like an odd comparison, but if you are looking to purchase a pure bred dog, you check out a lot of breeders before making a decision. And if you are truly serious and prepared, you go with a list of questions for the breeder, both about the dogs and about the breeder's philosophy and methods. Now, the same should be done for other purchases, especially tools and equipment, like air compressors. A good compressor is an investment that should last a life time. But only if you do your research, not just about the product, but also about the company. Here are ten questions to ask when selecting a good company to purchase from, after that you can find the model that best suits your needs.

1. How long has the company been in business? Now, there are a lot of new companies that make great air compressors and other products, but a company that has been around for a long time has proven themselves in the market place.
2. Does the company actually manufacture air compressors or are they just resellers that stick their label on generic machines?
3. Do they manufacture a whole line of air compressors? A variety of compressors shows a knowledge in the market place, whether they are just focusing on a niche in the market or serving the entire market.
4. Are they knowledgeable about air compressors in general and their product specifically? There are a couple of ways to test their knowledge, check out their website and see what type of helpful information they have. Are they just trying to sell you their product, or help you to understand compressors in general so that you can make an informed decision? Some manufacturers have dealers you can talk to in person, or you can call their customer service number to ask questions.
5. Do they have a reputation for building quality products? Check with friends, ask around at local businesses, or read online reviews. Try to get a general feeling of their reputation. All companies have their devout followers and ardent opposition, and sometimes these people are the most vocal. Screen these people out to find the middle ground.
6. Where are their compressors manufactured? Do they make them in the US, or have them made overseas. Does this matter to you? To some, it is very important.
7. Are parts and accessories easily available for their products? If not, this can really be a pain in the neck down the road a ways.
8. Have you heard of their name before? Often a company name that you have heard mentioned occasionally throughout the years is a good place to start.
9. What type of materials do they use in the construction of their air compressors? A toaster purchased 50 years ago was made of steel, today they are often made of aluminum or plastic and don't last as long. If this drives you nuts in a $25 appliance, you do not want the same problem in a more expensive item.
10. How long (hours of use) are their air compressors built to last, and how well do they guarantee their claim?
