Especially in the high-end flat-panel TV market, one with a new ultra-thin LED backlight product is becoming the focus of attention, and led the high-end flat-panel TV sales to increase exponentially. LED is not essentially a new TV display technology, he simply applied new LED light source technology to replace the traditional cold and the light source of LCD TV. But the use of side-type backlight LED LCD TV to the owners of traditional products can not compare slim:

Although the design has a thin, but the surface area on how to get better utilization of space is still to be resolved. 11 on the eve of LG launched two series of narrow border 90,80 LCD TV products. At the same time, LG said the technology will be more next year without borders leading LCD TV products. Although the LCD TV can not really achieve "no border"?? This is just a super-narrow border exaggerated description. But industry experts have predicted that no border after the product will be ultra-thin LCD TV LED process design has a peak. In fact, as early as three years ago, including Samsung, etc., have been a number of liquid crystal display business into a super-narrow border of the products under development. But these technologies are used in engineering display areas, such as LCD TV wall and so on. April of this year Samsung introduced in the domestic market a liquid crystal mosaic border wall thickness of only the narrowest of products less than 3 mm, which is called "No Border" classic products. Since then, including
Sharp
, LG, companies such as Taiwan's Chi Mei has introduced a border to meet the millimeter thickness of liquid crystal display panel for complete machine business use. The support of a number of upstream firms, on the one hand shows the real value of technology without borders, on the other hand it is the instructions to create, mm, or even small levels of border bottlenecks in LCD TV technology has basically been a breakthrough, Samsung said that next year its narrowest border LCD products to the desire to reduce the border thickness of 1.7 mm level?? 3 m watching TV from almost see the border. 11 TV market, LG LCD TV launched without Borders is clearly seen that the field of engineering display large-scale application of technology in the civilian market value. The rise of flat-panel TV history itself is a light on the process design history. At present the concept of LED TV Konka products have been shown to achieve the limit thickness of 7 mm. Close to the limit in ultra-thin the context of inventive blue ocean to find the market without borders on the best policy after all. However, analysts believe that LG can not afford to dominate the LCD TV market without borders. One is up to the present location, Samsung Super Narrow remains the leader in LCD technology. The second is the great success of Samsung's ultra-thin LED TV also only 6 months to maintain the leading position: According to statistics, 11 during the Samsung LED TV market domestic market share has slipped nearly three months ago 70%. Many domestic color TV enterprises in the rise of ultra-thin LED color TV market, Samsung LED TV became the greatest challenger to the status of ace. LCD market without borders, this scene will be repeated again.

The American Novel and Its Tradition

The American Novel and Its Tradition

$6.44

"Since the earliest days," writes Richard Chase in this classic study, "the American novel, in its most original and characteristic form, has worked out its destiny and defined itself by incorporating an element of romance." In his detailed study of works by Charles Brockden Brown, James Fenimore Cooper, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville, Mark Twain, Henry James, Frank Norris, George Washington Cable, William Dean Howells, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and William Faulkner, Chase identifies and traces this tradition through two centuries of American literature. The best novelists, he argues, have found uses for romance beyond the escapism, fantasy, and sentimentality often associated with it. Through romance, these writers mirror the extremes of American culture -- the Puritan melodrama of good and evil, or the pastoral idyll inspired by the American wilderness.

Doubting the Devout: The Ultra-Orthodox in the Jewish American Imagination

Doubting the Devout: The Ultra-Orthodox in the Jewish American Imagination

$28.49

Before 1985, depictions of ultra-Orthodox Jews in popular American culture were rare, and if they did appear, in films such as "Fiddler on the Roof" or within the novels of Chaim Potok, they evoked a nostalgic vision of Old World tradition. Yet the ordination of women into positions of religious leadership and other controversial issues have sparked an increasingly visible and voluble culture war between America's ultra-Orthodox and non-Orthodox Jews, one that has found a particularly creative voice in literature, media, and film. Unpacking the work of Allegra Goodman, Tova Mirvis, Pearl Abraham, Erich Segal, Anne Roiphe, and others, as well as television shows and films such as "A Price Above Rubies," Nora L. Rubel investigates the choices non-haredi Jews have made as they represent the character and characters of ultra-Orthodox Jews. In these artistic and aesthetic acts, Rubel recasts the war over gender and family and the anxieties over acculturation, Americanization, and continuity. More than just a study of Jewishness and Jewish self-consciousness, "Doubting the Devout" will speak to any reader who has struggled to balance religion, family, and culture.

Following Tradition

Following Tradition

$20

Following Tradition is an expansive examination of the history of tradition—"one of the most common as well as most contested terms in English language usage"—in Americans' thinking and discourse about culture. Tradition in use becomes problematic because of "its multiple meanings and its conceptual softness." As a term and a concept, it has been important in the development of all scholarly fields that study American culture. Folklore, history, American studies, anthropology, cultural studies, and others assign different value and meaning to tradition. It is a frequent point of reference in popular discourse concerning everything from politics to lifestyles to sports and entertainment. Politicians and social advocates appeal to it as prima facie evidence of the worth of their causes. Entertainment and other media mass produce it, or at least a facsimile of it. In a society that frequently seeks to reinvent itself, tradition as a cultural anchor to be reverenced or rejected is an essential, if elusive, concept. Simon Bronner's wide net captures the historical, rhetorical, philosophical, and psychological dimensions of tradition. As he notes, he has written a book "about an American tradition—arguing about it." His elucidation of those arguments makes fascinating and thoughtful reading. An essential text for folklorists, Following Tradition will be a valuable reference as well for historians and anthropologists; students of American studies, popular culture, and cultural studies; and anyone interested in the continuing place of tradition in American culture.

American Philosophy and the Romantic Tradition

American Philosophy and the Romantic Tradition

$43.93

Professional philosophers have tended either to shrug off American philosophy as negligible or derivative or to date American philosophy from the work of twentieth century analytical positivists such as Quine. Russell Goodman expands on the revisionist position developed by Stanley Cavell, that the most interesting strain of American thought proceeds not from Puritan theology or from empirical science but from a peculiarly American kind of Romanticism. This insight leads Goodman, through Cavell, back to Emerson and Thoreau and thence to William James and John Dewey, as they assimilated to American circumstances and intellectual habits the currents of European thought from Kant to Wittgenstein.

The American State Constitutional Tradition

The American State Constitutional Tradition

$24.04

For too long, the American constitutional tradition has been defined solely by the U.S. Constitution drafted in 1787. Yet constitutional debates at the state level open a window on how Americans, in different places and at different times, have chosen to govern themselves. From New Hampshire in 1776 to Louisiana in 1992, state constitutional conventions have served not only as instruments of democracy but also as forums for revising federal principles and institutions. John Dinan shows that state constitutions are much more than mere echoes of the federal document. The first comprehensive study of all 114 state constitutional conventions for which there are recorded debates, his book shows that state constitutional debates in many ways better reflect the accumulated wisdom of American constitution-makers than do the more traditional studies of the federal constitution. Wielding extraordinary command over a mass of historical detail, Dinan clarifies the alternatives considered by state constitution makers and the reasons for the adoption or rejection of various governing principles and institutions. Among other things, he shows that the states are nearly universal in their rejection of the rigid federal model of the constitutional amendment process, favoring more flexible procedures for constitutional change; they often grant citizens greater direct participation in law-making; they have debated and at times rejected the value of bicameralism; and they have altered the veto powers of both the executive and judicial branches. Dinan also shows that, while the Founders favored a minimalist design and focused exclusively on protecting individuals from government action, state constitutionmakers have often adopted more detailed constitutions, sometimes specifying positive rights that depend on government action for their enforcement. Moreover, unlike the federal constitution, state constitutions often contain provisions dedicated to the formation of citizen character, ranging from compulsory schooling to the regulation of gambling or liquor. By integrating state constitution making with the federal constitutional tradition, this path-breaking work widens and deepens our understanding of the principles by which we've chosen to govern ourselves.

Arguing with Tradition

Arguing with Tradition

$16

Arguing with Tradition is the first book to explore language and interaction within a contemporary Native American legal system. Grounded in Justin Richland’s extensive field research on the Hopi Indian Nation of northeastern Arizona—on whose appellate court he now serves as Justice Pro Tempore—this innovative work explains how Hopi notions of tradition and culture shape and are shaped by the processes of Hopi jurisprudence.             Like many indigenous legal institutions across North America, the Hopi Tribal Court was created in the image of Anglo-American-style law. But Richland shows that in recent years, Hopi jurists and litigants have called for their courts to develop a jurisprudence that better reflects Hopi culture and traditions. Providing unprecedented insights into the Hopi and English courtroom interactions through which this conflict plays out, Richland argues that tensions between the language of Anglo-style law and Hopi tradition both drive Hopi jurisprudence and make it unique. Ultimately, Richland’s analyses of the language of Hopi law offer a fresh approach to the cultural politics that influence indigenous legal and governmental practices worldwide.
